Thermoforming of plastics is an important process used to convert sheet thermoplastic materials into virtually limitless shapes using simple heat and pressure, and at low cost.

The TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine is of simple, compact and rugged design and suitable for use in school design and technology programmes as well as in industry and small business.

The TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine was originally developed more than twenty years ago to meet the need for a low cost, reliable and easy to use thermoformer for a variety of applications. These include packaging, product development and small scale manufacturing. The design has stood the test of time and thousands are in daily use worldwide.

Thermoforming of plastics is an important part of the light manufacturing industry. Thermoforming relies on the ability of a heated thermoplastics sheet to deform under low stress. The force required to cause this change of shape can be applied mechanically, using compressed air or by air evacuation.

The TechSoft Standard machine uses a combination of mechanical stretching and atmospheric pressure by draping a heat softened thermoplastics sheet material over a former (or mould, pattern, etc) and then evacuating the air trapped between the sheet and the machine table. This reduces the pressure beneath the sheet and allows the atmospheric pressure to force the sheet to conform, as far as possible, to the shape of the former, and thereby creating the article required. The TechSoft Thermoforming Simulator shows the above principles conveniently and without waste of material.

Educational uses are not limited to the technology curriculum, as the machine can be used to enhance topics from science, maths, social studies, drama etc.

The TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine is built in New Zealand for supply throughout the world and is complete with supplies of suitable materials cut to size and at education prices. The TechSoft Reducing Plate is available to make smaller formings more economical. A range of training courses are also offered, either on site or at our Technology Facility at Hutt City, New Zealand.

The TechSoft Standard machine is supplied ready-to-use, requiring only the heater to be connected to a normal 230VAC supply.

The TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine is completely silent in operation and fully complies with health and safety requirements. It is often used in classroom situations as opposed to the workshop. It is portable and easily transported. Security fixings are fitted to the machine.

The TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine is suitable for use by both genders, and can be modified to suit differently abled people.

The scope of the output from the TechSoft Standard thermoforming machine is limited only by its size and the nature of the process. Simple or complex articles can be produced from a little as a few cents. The machine is an ideal start to a comprehensive plastics technology programme involving wide areas of the curriculum. The TechSoft Senior Thermoformer builds upon the success of the TechSoft Primary Themoformer and the TechSoft Standard Thermoformer Machines while offering a larger sheet size and more features.

Conventional (Evacuation) Thermoforming relies upon atmospheric pressure to force the sheet over the Forming Tool. The TechSoft Senior Thermoforming machine offers the additional facility of inflating the sheet, free-form, or through an aperture plate, or with the Plug Forming Attachment, or simply to assist release from the forming tool in evacuation forming.

A range of training courses are also offered, either on site or at our Technology Facility at Hutt City.

Injection moulding is an extremely important plastics process and has a real place in a well designed Schools Technology learning programme. TechSoft-Student thermoplastics injection moulding machine is safe, compact, constructed from durable materials and is ideally suited for use in activities involving the Technology Curriculum in textiles, physics, science, chemistry and design & workshop.

The TechSoft-Student injection moulding machine was originally developed more than twenty years ago to meet a need for a low cost, reliable and easy to use injection moulder for a variety of applications in education. The design has stood the test of time and has been systematically updated. Large numbers are in daily use throughout the world. Paramount in the design of the TechSoft-Student machine is safety - this machine is completely free from noise hazard, the heater and its electronic controller are fully guarded and the injection plunger is fully enclosed. Nevertheless, students are able to fully participate in the process and develop valuable skills whilst making worthwhile and unique product. Two colour moulding is practical on the TechSoft-Student machine.

A variety of different Plastics Powdered Materials are supplied by TechSoft New Zealand for use in this machine and these are available in a variety of colours as well as transparent. The TechSoft-Student injection moulding machine can be used to produce commercial quality and quantities of products for small enterprise ventures, especially in such applications as, gears, wheels, jewellery, buttons, screws, boxes, lids, plaques, emblems, seals, badges, knobs, in fact any shape of article where the exterior and interior surfaces can be touched by the mould surface. The scope of the output from the TechSoft- Student machine is limited only by its physical size and the nature of the process. Existing local resources can be utilised as the materials can cost as little as a fraction of cent per item. The articles produced from the machine can range from very simple discs to highly complex components.

The TechSoft-Student machine is supplied in a ready to use condition requiring only to be connected to a 230 volt single phase electrical supply, (normal domestic power outlet). The machine is silent and safe in operation and can be used in a normal classroom desktop situation or in a workshop. It is portable and can be easily transported with normal care. It is supplied with fixing holes for greater stability and for security purposes.

A machined mould is supplied with the machine as well as a quantity of moulding material, set of tools, gloves and manual. Additionally, we provide a series of In-service Training courses, and Visiting Tutor services throughout New Zealand by request.

Plastics & Ceramics Rotational Moulding System

Rotational Moulding is a well established and widely used technique for the production of mainly hollow articles ranging in size from minute medical prostheses to massive tanks of over 100,000 Litres capacity. It is a safe, effective and efficient process for converting a variety of raw materials, including plastics and ceramics, into attractive and useful articles at affordable cost.

TechSoft RotoMoulder is a unique desktop machine suitable for use in schools, training and enterprises where small quantities of mouldings of up to approximately one Litre capacity are required to be made easily and at minimal cost. TechSoft RotoMoulder uses variously gas, electric and manual input to convert thermoplastics, thermosetting plastics or ceramic slips into articles of virtually limitless shape.

TechSoft RotoMoulder is supplied in the ready to use condition, (except where Regulations require local filling of the on-board gas fuel container), requiring only to be connected to a normal 230 VAC electrical supply.

TechSoft RotoMoulder is suitable, with appropriate supervision, for all ages and is excellent for cross curricular technology learning. The unique design of TechSoft RotoMoulder avoids problems inherent in other types of machine. The learner, or operator, is in complete control of all phases of the process. This adds significantly to the interest and hence the learning process.

TechSoft RotoMoulder comes complete with a mould, starter kit of materials, tools, built-in process timer and manual. It is made essentially of steel, finished in baked on enamel. Security fixings are provided.

Nuton Universal Press System

TechSoft Nuton Universal Press has been designed for use in schools to facilitate demonstration and performance of a very wide range of processes involving the simple application of a controlled mechanical force.

Practical Applications
Force is a phenomena - it cannot be seen - only its effect can be observed, sensed or detected. Applied mechanical forces are used in a vast range of useful operations. The following, necessarily incomplete, list of common applications of mechanical force can be usefully used in a school's technology learning environment.


shearing, punching, piercing, cutting, blanking, hobbing, drawing, forming, stamping, pressing, moulding, extruding, squeezing, crushing, flattening, bending, deforming, stretching, riveting, swaging, clicking, folding, pressing, compacting, filtering, splitting, pressurising, coining, extracting, shredding, dicing, shaping, . . . .

TechSoft Nuton Universal Press is a unique machine based upon the age old Braemar Press principle. It is energised by a hand operated and controlled oil hydraulic system. This enables precise and safe application force to be exerted on a work piece to carry out operations otherwise neither safe nor practical.

The Press is able to be used by Tinnies through to Tertiary level. Typical materials processed range from;


juice extraction from oranges and other fruit and vegetables, to crushing rocks, to bending steel plate, to hobbing moulds, to clicking paper, to blanking textiles, extruding metals . . . . the range of useful and safe applications is endless.

The Nuton Press is supplied with a dial pressure gauge. This enables the actual force applied to the workpiece to be simply calculated and facilitates cross-curricular learning, maths, sciences, food technology, and so on.

Base tray

A steel tray designed to collect any acceptable oil leakage.

Transport handle

Kit of two-person handle and fixings to facilitate safe lifting and handling.

Shields

Kit of three fixed and one movable transparent shields able to be simply fitted to fixings existing on the Nuton.

Tooling pallets

120mm x 120mm x 12mm with 10mm slots at each corner to engage with the four M8 threaded holes in each platen. Mild steel surface ground. Used for mounting tooling and workpieces.

Rubber-forming bed

120mm x 120mm x 25mm shroud fitted with elastomer, Used for forming ductile metals and thermoplastics, (cold or heated).

Steel-ribbon knives

Standard shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles and triangles are available. Other shapes are custom made to order. Used to stencil-cut or "click" shapes from paper based materials, leather, plastics foil, rubber, etc

Compression plates

Kit of two 100mm x 100mm hardened steel plates for operations involving compression of materials having hardness greater than that of the steel platens. Safety shields kit included unless evidence of prior fitting is provided.

Splitting device

Kit of hardened plate and splitting chisel. Used for the investigative splitting of rocks and other minerals. Safety shields kit included unless evidence of prior fitting is provided.

Heated platens

Kit of two thermostatically controlled, electrically heated sub-platens, complete with heat insulating pads. Used for operations involving heat such as thermoforming, compression moulding of plastics and rubbers, etc

Shear

Two blade shear, with 50mm wide blades mounted on pallets for setting up onto platens.

Vee-bed & Vee-Blade

Vee-bed and vee-blade, 100mm wide, for bending sheet, strip and bar material.

3-Point Flexural Bending Device

Two fulcrums mounted on one pallet and one fulcrum mounted on a separate pallet. For estimating the flexural strength of a variety of common materials.

Circular Bolster

Set two 100mm circular bolsters to take 50mm dia punch and die tools, each mounted on standard pallets, for setting up onto platens. For producing apertures in a wide variety of materials. Hardened and ground punches and dies made to order.

Circular mould

20mm internal diameter x 75 long. supplied with three term temperature controller, resistance heater, precision core and starter material pack. Impression volume depends upon the material charge mass, Designed for compression moulding of polymers.

Extrusion Attachment

Fits to the circular mould to enable extrusion of polymers and low modulus and ductile materials.

Soap mould

Two part traditional shape mould used for pressing tallow derived soap.

Hobbing stock

Blank of hobbing quality metal. Used to form a cavity the shape of a forced hob.

Juice extractor

Kit of food-grade crushing plates with juice collector. Used to extract liquid from fruit, vegetables, nuts and other materials.

Sheet Plastics Bending System

Sheet Plastics Bending System

TechSoft Thermoplastics Heat Bender has been designed primarily to facilitate activities within the Technology Curriculum but is also suitable for use in model making and light manufacturing operations. It is used to heat soften a narrow width of sheet thermoplastics material such that it can be bent or otherwise formed. (Sometimes called a strip heater, or strip thermoformer, or line bender). It is the plastics equivalent of a sheet metal folder and is used in sheet plastics work, which is sometimes called "plastics fabrication".

TechSoft offer a range of Plastics Sheet Materials for use with this machine.

It has been designed to heat soften a wide range of common, mostly amorphous, thermoplastics sheet materials from approximately 0.5mm to 6mm thickness.

It is suitable for use, under appropriate supervision, by all ages and is supplied in the ready to use condition requiring only to be connected to a normal 230 VAC electrical supply.

The TechSoft Heat Bender is supplied with a starter kit of materials, gap width adjusting wrench and a useful guide to suitable materials.

Plastics Moulding Hotplate System

TechSoft Plastics Moulding Hotplate System

TechSoft Hotplate has been designed primarily for controlled heating of a wide range of plastics material in sheet, powder and liquid form to enable a range of articles to be made at very low cost. Articles such as badges, buttons, jewellery etc., in a range of bright colours can be made using the tools and materials supplied with the TechSoft Hotplate, can be made at primary level upwards.

A low cost, portable and effective way to heat soften, melt or cure plastics materials.

The TechSoft Hotplate is an ideal aid for teacher demonstrations of the properties of plastics materials as well as for use by students to produce articles using a wide range of plastics. Suitable for age range Tinnies through to Tertiary level.

The TechSoft Hotplate has a shielded working surface and is supplied complete with a stepless thermostat type temperature controller, and a Power-on warning light. A durable chart is provided showing the variable heat controller settings for the range of working surface temperatures. The working surface temperature may be controlled, according to heat load, from ambient to 275°C.

Types of plastics that may be processed using the TechSoft Hotplate include thermoplastics in powder, liquid and sheet form and some thermosetting types as well as those that have already been manufactured to shape. Articles can be further worked with TechSoft Hollow Punches.

TechSoft offer a range of Plastics Sheet Materials and Plastics Powdered Materials for use with this machine.

The TechSoft Hotplate is robust, but to avoid damaging the wrought aluminium working surface only soft, plastics or wooden, implements should be used. Metal utensils or tools should not be used in contact with the working surface. Should accidental damage be caused it can be repaired using metal wool or, in extreme cases, by using mild abrasives.

TechSoft Non-stick fluid should be used, sparingly, to avoid plastics materials adhering to the hotplate.

TechSoft Hotwire Cutter

TechSoft Hotwire Cutter

TECHSOFT HOT-WIRE CUTTER has been designed primarily to facilitate activities within the Technology Curriculum but is also suitable for use in model making and light manufacturing operations. It is used to melt or pyrolyse, a narrow kerf of material to profile cut it to shape. Contouring can also be done.

The machine has been designed principally to thermally cut cellular plastics such as expanded polystyrene and polyethylene foams. Using the appropriate techniques and safety procedures, other materials can be cut using this machine. These materials include, polyvinyl chloride foam, polyurethane foams (both polyether and polyester), thin gauge thermoplastics foils, polymer based textiles and some cellulose products such as paper and card. TechSoft will be pleased to advise the suitability of these and other materials upon request.

The TechSoft machine is designed to economically and efficiently cut all expanded polystyrene, EPS, and most polyethylene, PE, foams to the full wire height (190mm). It will also cut to the full wire height most other common thermoplastics foams. Thermoplastics foils up to 0.2mm thick can be successfully cut as well as all common weight thermoplastics based textiles. The machine is not designed to cut textiles based on or containing glass, aromatic polyamides, carbon or boron fibres.

The bow and therefore the hot wire can be adjusted to plus or minus 25 degrees from the vertical, so allowing accurate angle cutting of materials. Bow to hot wire distance is now 500mm. An optional adjustable T-rest is available for the machine for more accurate work.

In addition to profile cutting, a facility for energising contour shaping is also fitted to this machine. This enables a hand-held sculpturing tool to be used. The contouring tool can be used simultaneously with the profile cutter. A hand-held sculpturing tool is available from TechSoft as an optional accessory.
