The TechSoft CamCut 300 is the latest generation of computer numeric control, CNC, machines developed for use in school technology learning programmes.
It is the result of over ten years of experience in the design and manufacture of CNC machine tools for education and training purposes.
TechSoft CamCut 300 is a fully featured 3 axis machine tool that is designed specifically for teaching the principles and applications of surfaces generated by the processes of drilling, milling and engraving.
It uses the proven teaching technique of - learning by doing.
TechSoft CamCut 300 is designed to be used at all levels, strands and contexts of the Technology Curriculum. For example, it can be used to show social aspects of the application of information technology through to creation of both simple and complex shapes in negative and positive realisations - in a wide variety of materials, including timbers, metals, plastics and ceramics.
The machine and software is easy to use and is designed to facilitate success at first try independent of the initial level of skill and knowledge of the local prime teaching partnership - the teacher and the student.
TechSoft CamCut 300 is safe to use because it has been designed for use in schools. It incorporates modern active safety features, including full visibility under an unbreakable polycarbonate total enclosure secured by intrusion switches.
TechSoft CamCut 300 is economic because it has been dimensioned and priced to suit real teaching situations. It is small enough to fit into existing classroom and workshop spaces - and to be moved easily between them. But it is large and powerful enough to produce work that has the best "take home" appeal - essential to promote good parent- school relationships.
It is compatible with all types of PC computers because it uses both types of programmes: ISO norms or CADCAM toolpath in 2D & 3D presentations.
TechSoft CamCut 300 is designed to last because it uses modern machine tool construction with many standard components and is a winner of the WorldDIDAC Award.

Simple to use CNC Embroidery Machine

Sample of Embroidery from POEM
The POEM embroidery machine is a totally new concept in sewing. Unlike conventional machines it has been designed from scratch to sit alongside a personal computer. Poem is manufactured in Japan by Aisin Seiki a division of Toyota, so a thoroughbred background in sewing technology can be assured. Poem is simplicity itself to operate. There are no buttons to press, displays to read, or settings to adjust. With the TechSoft software, all operations of the machine are controlled by the computer. All the user has to do is fit the fabric to the frame, thread up in a suitable colour, then tell the computer to start sewing. The fabric is held, while sewing, by a frame. This ensures accurate alignment of different parts of the embroidered pattern, and dramatically reduces the effects of fabric stretch.
When purchasing the Poem, TechSoft also include Poem Design and Embroider for Windows computer systems or Arc Embroidery Plus software, for use with the Acorn Archimedes / RISC PC range.
Poem is a superb introduction to computer aided design and manufacture for pupils of all ages and abilities. It can open up a whole new range of computer based design activities. Of course, Poem also makes an ideal core to mini-enterprise activities, and can even be made to pay for itself!

TryCut has been developed by TechSoft to meet the need for a low cost "machinable wax" and general purpose model making material.
As a "machinable wax" TryCut is ideal for use in TechSoft CamCut computerised numeric control, CNC, machines to make both simple and complex components.
TryCut is also suitable for use in traditional machining and fitting operations, especially with more complex exercises such as large pitch screw-cutting, spherical and contour turning, copy-milling, etc. It is particularly useful when the operation required is outside the capability of the machine tool when using other materials, such as metal or timber.
TryCut can be drilled, reamed, milled, threaded, turned, sawn, moulded, carved and even hobbed. It is ideal as a try-out material. In this way a student can set up and perform operations without risking the machine or the tooling. Once the operation is proven to give the required result another material can be substituted.
TryCut can be re-cycled. Using the instructions provided with the material, a large proportion of TryCut can be recovered and remelted for further use.
TryCut can be used in foundry operations, such as lost wax casting. This enables castings having more detail than is practical using normal sand techniques.
TryCut can be used to cast thermosetting plastics resins such as unsaturated polyester.
TryCut is easy to carve and work with hand tools. It is dust-free and non-toxic.
TryCut is supplied in slab form, approx 30 mm thick. Round stock should be turned from rectangular billets.
TryCut is sold by mass, kg, and unless ordered otherwise, in 210 x 210 x 30mm approx pieces.
TryCut is resistant to common chemicals and solvents, but TechSoft should be consulted prior to using hazardous chemicals in connection with TryCut.
End cover for a new CD player
An end cover component for a proposed CD player was required to have the shape of an elliptical helical path having a hemispherical cross-section and where the axis's were offset 10 mm from each centreline. The height of the helix was 30mm and the cover was 120 mm x 90mm. A TechSoft CamCut CNC machine was used to machine a cavity, (machining time 10mins) into a block of TryCut. A TechSoft mouldmaking plaster impression was taken from this and the cover thermoformed directly over the plaster. TryCut gave the ease of machining, with no risk to the machine or the cutter, and the smooth surface finish required.
Counting discs for infants
A unique set of counting discs were required to be made in cast zinc-aluminium alloy (Kirksite). Students carved disks of TryCut, then lost wax cast the counting discs.
